When to shop
A sofa is a significant investment, so before purchasing we all want to make sure we're getting the best deal possible.
There are a few things to think about when considering when to buy a sofa; lead times, peak trading, and sofa sales.
Lead times:
Most sofas are built to order, which can mean a lengthy wait between the time you place your order and when your sofa is ready for delivery. Average lead times can be anywhere between 4 and 16 weeks depending on stock levels, so make sure to factor this into your plans.
If time is really of the essence, it's worth looking at the best quick delivery sofa options to minimise your wait.
Peak trading:
The busiest time of year for sofa sales tends to be in October when we all start considering Christmas and hosting guests. Therefore lead times can be at their longest at this point. It also tends to mean sofas are at their most expensive, with few sales happening; if you can, try to avoid shopping during this busy period.
Sofa sales:
If you're lucky, you might be able to nab your favourite design in a furniture sale. Discounts tend to apply more to end-of-line products, with retailers protecting the prices of their bestsellers, but there can still be plenty of bargains to be found throughout the year. We've rounded up our top tips for when to keep an eye out for sofa sales below.
January sofa deals
Hang on a bit longer than Boxing Day, and you might get a better deal if the sofa sale you have your eye on rolls on into January sofa deals.
Retailers know most of us are a little strapped for cash in January thanks to Christmas spending, so there can be some good discounts on offer to tempt us to spend.
If a retailer wants to shift stock for the new season, then discounts on end-of-line products also tend to get bigger as the month continues, however, waiting does run the risk that your product may sell out before it drops to its lowest price.
Bank Holiday sofa deals
From the end of June into July, and often throughout August, retailers may cut prices as part of Bank Holiday sofa deals.
Sofas don't tend to fall into seasonal categories as much as other products, but you might find discounts on 'summery' fabrics such as cottons and linens as retailers look to make the most of summer spending before autumn hits and we all start dreaming of sumptuous velvets and cosy woolen blends.
Black Friday sofa deals
'Black Friday' originated in the US to denote the first day following Thanksgiving when retailers would cut prices to draw customers in to shop their store's sales. Driven by global brands, this price-slashing event soon travelled over to the UK, and now Black Friday (closely followed by Cyber Monday) has become a consistent mark in our calendars.
Often hailed as having the biggest discounts of the year, Black Friday always falls on the last day Friday of November, so the next time it will roll around is this week, on Friday 29th November 2024.
That said, in recent years, the event has spread to encompass more than just one day, with retailers starting Black Friday discounting earlier and earlier so that a full Black Friday 'week' of discounts isn't uncommon. In fact, in 2022 and 2023 we saw retailers, like John Lewis & Partners, running Black Friday promotions throughout the whole month of November.
Whether or not you agree with the rampant consumerism Black Friday has now come to represent, there's no denying it can be a great time for Black Friday sofa deals and Cyber Monday sofa deals.
Make sure to bookmark the Ideal Home Black Friday deals page to get alerts for all the biggest Black Friday homeware sales as they launch. You might also want to browse our guides to the best mattress deals, furniture deals, and bedding deals to save more money on investing in your home.
Boxing Day sofa deals
If you're done with the turkey and ready to nab a bargain, then you'll find many retailers offering Boxing Day sofa deals; and they can often start well before Boxing day itself, with stores increasingly offering discounts as soon as their pre-Christmas shipping dates have passed.
How we choose sofa deals
You'll find full details of the Ideal Home product selection process on our how we test page.
In order to compile this sofa deals page we factored in our own hands-on testing, searching out deals on the products that we consider best-in-class based on our in-house review process. That includes sofa deals from John Lewis & Partners, Habitat, Sofa.com, Darlngs of Chelsea, Furniture Village, and many more.
If deals aren't currently available on our tried-and-tested favourites, then our product experts have used their knowledge and experience of the product category to curate a list of the best deals available today. This includes researching technical specifications and taking into account multiple customer reviews of any deals we recommend.
